Attention costume nerds! It’s time to run, not walk, to the FIDM Museum in Downtown Los Angeles as the 14th presentation of the “Art of Costume Design in Television” exhibition opens to the public on August 23rd, 2022. This FIDM Museum exhibition includes costumes from over 20 programs, including 13 shows that are Emmy-Nominated for Costume Design.
One of my favorite displays is of course dedicated to Moon Knight. The Moon Knight costumes were designed by costume designer Meghan Kasperlik. Meghan’s work is quite incredible, designing costumes for the starring actors and the Egyptian gods seen throughout the show. The ‘One Costume to Rule Them All’; however, is the Moon Knight armor that was famously created out of 803 pattern pieces. Insane!
There is something quite magical about being in the presence of the Euphoria costumes. The Euphoria costumes were designed by costume designer Heidi Bivens and these costumes really bring such an edge to the exhibition. The stand outs for me are the Maddy and Jules costumes. Maddy’s costume was worn during the now famous ‘door pounding’ scene while Jules’s costume has just so much detail in it. Honestly, these costumes are worth the trip alone.
I was incredibly excited to finally see the infamous What We Do In The Shadows costumes by costume designer, Laura Montgomery. Each of our three favorite vampires made it into the exhibition, Nandor, Nadja, and Laszlo. Nandor is wearing his wedding outfit while Nadja is wearing this fabulous red tartan look. Three of my favorite costumes in the entire museum.
Yes! The Pam & Tommy costumes made it to the exhibition. I loved Kameron Lennox’s costume design work on Pam & Tommy. The museum included one of the Pam latex looks and the Baywatch life guard suit. Don’t even get me started on the suit made for Sebastian Stan’s Tommy. So good!
After years of waiting, you can finally see the costumes of Bridgerton in person! I love the costumes that were selected which include a Penelope look, Kate, Anthony Bridgerton, Lady Danbury, and of course the queen herself, Queen Charlotte! Costume designer Sophie Canale is just so talented!
Finally, costumes from the very popular fourth season of Stranger Things, designed by Amy Parris. Probably one of the most famous costumes in the world right now is the Eddie Munson look worn by Joseph Quinn. THE Hellfire Club t-shirt, in-person! If that doesn’t send you running straight to the museum, I don’t know what will.
This exhibition celebrating the work of this year’s costume designers, costume supervisors and assistant costume designers opens to the public on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, and closes Saturday, October 15, 2022. Admission to the museum is free. Located on the campus of the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, FIDM Museum is at 9th Street and Grand Avenue.
